DESIGN STATEMENT:

TO DESIGN A MOBILE BIKE STATION THAT WILL ASSIST CHICAGO BIKE RIDERS. OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE BIKE RIDING THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF CHICAGO BY PROVIDING BIKE RIDERS WITH A MOBILE BIKE STATION THAT EDUCATES, REPAIRS, AND PROMOTES BIKE RIDING.

CHICAGO COMMUNITY BIKE PROJECT

 

    Does mobile repairs at clinics and workshops with children and adults alike, hasn’t visited the same neighborhood twice.

 

    Goal is to make bikes and biking more accessible.

 

 

Interview with Alex of West Town Bikes

Comment on appearance of trailer: make is simple. Slick looking or overly complicated is not the goal. This doesn’t make it more accessible. You want to encourage the observer to say, “I can make that” or “I can do that”

 

A good way to start accumulating customers is by contacting community organizations and setting up a stand at a function or event.

 

 

 

Things to know and have:

• Keep a way to keep up with, organize and inventory tools.

 

• Drop Cloth with an outline of the tool is an effective way of doing so.

 

• The drop cloth also protects the floor from the dirt and oil of bike.

 

• Control your space. (It’s good to set up in a corner and utilize the two walls to protect your tools.)

 

• Set up an perimeter

 

Couple with programs already in place

• Ambassador Program with repair as an aspect

• Fit and tailor to CDOT 

• Look into the “safety route” ( walk, bike to school)

• Student programs “college marketing”
